Addon cards don't work well and fail miserably. You can extend the cables just enough to get into the motherboard ports, although it may not fit some boards that are spaced farther away from PCIE slots. You can do diagnostics, file transfer, and determine disk health easier with this card. USB seems inherently unreliable for HD for some reason. USB generally works for solid state better. A: eSATA does not provide any power.  You'd typically use an eSATA port with an external drive enclosure that has its own power supply.

A: You can connect the 4 drive enclosure by eSATA wityh this, but your motherboard's SATA controller needs to be able to support port multiplying with eSATA. If it does, then your computer should recognize all drives.

A: You are looking for eSATAp variants and connections. Where "e" means External, "SATA" means Serial Advanced Technology Attachment, "p" means Power over connection.
