It's a great knife. I actually like the finger guard **Q: How does it fit in the sheath with the finger guard?** A: The sheath is slotted for the guard. BTW, the 612 is one of my favorite Moras. You may be able to find a good sheath on there. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic bang for the buck *by A***S on July 5, 2011* As a kid, I've mostly had folding knives or Swiss Army knives. I've generally kept a leatherman in my glovebox for emergencies. More and more, I've come to realize that folders big weakness is the folding mechanism, so, I thought I'd take a look at fixed blade knives.I'm not a collector. I know nothing about grinds. The only fixed blade knife I ever owned (apart from kitchen knives and a machete) was a "Rambo" esque survival knife back in the 1980's, complete with compass and "fishing kit" in the handle. Not a great knife, but sometimes it's better to learn on knives that are inexpensive, so you can appreciate the better knives.I'm also a fan of Dual Survival, with Cody Lundin and Dave Canterbury. Cody raves about these Mora knives and wears one around his neck (the model 1, I believe, without a finger guard). Now, onto this knife...The 612 knife has a half finger guard, which I felt more comfortable with to avoid any "slips". I also opted for the carbon steel blade, as it's easier to sharpen in the field. You do have to oil this blade, but any food safe oil (mineral oil or vegetable oil) will keep this blade from rusting. I believe you can get this same "style" in stainless steel, which is more rust resistant, but harder to sharpen.This is a lightweight knife. Small, but versatile. The sheath it comes with, isn't very good, but a little gorilla tape and some paracord will make this a nice necker knife. For the price, this is a very good knife. It's inexpensive, but not a "cheap" knife. Good quality, sharp, and not too crazy big. Having seen what Cody can do with this knife on his show, made me realize that a great knife is one that you are in control of. And, at this size and weight, it's a very comfortable, very sharp, very reliable knife.At the price, it's darn near unbeatable. Now, will I be batoning huge trees with this? No. But, for finer work, a nice knife to wear around the neck or keep in my car....I think this is a tremendous value. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cheap but good. Sharp! *by B***T on March 18, 2014* Good knife for the price. Yes its cheap. Yes the sheath isn’t the greatest. But the knife has a good, comfortable handle, the blade is sharp as hell and the knife has good balance. I wish it was a full tang, but its personal preference and hasn’t been an issue yet. You get a great knife for the price. This knife sits in my emergency backpack and I know it’s going to work when I ask it too. I take it out once a month or so, wipe it down with oil and put it back. Ill probably make a leather sheath for it sometime but the sheath that comes with it works well enough. But the sheath is still pretty cheap. I like this knife. Very good value for the money. Recommended. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Neat little knife *by S***D on September 5, 2012* I've been looking for a while trying to find a little fixed blade knife to carry around and decided on this one. I am definitely not disappointed in this product.First, the only thing wrong with this knife is the sheath. It doesn't feel secure and it's made out of a plastic material that you would find on toys. But since the knife is so awesome I'm willing to overlook this on the rating and review only the knife itself.The blade was exactly what I was looking for. At some point in my life I was wondering why nobody produced a knife with one angle down to the edge from the spine. I figured it must not be a practical thing to do so I never really gave it much thought. It turns out that this is called a Scandinavian grind and yes it seems to work pretty damn well. This knife is pretty much like a razor out of the box. I did the old paper cutting and body hair shaving test. The top of the spine is sloppy looking and rough but not really in a bad way if that makes any sense. Blade thickness is lacking a little bit but still feels pretty sturdy. The Scandinavian grind allows you to cut into material pretty straight. It is a little hard to explain but since the grind/edge is a wide continuous flat surface, you can use that to ride the material and cut into something pretty accurately.The handle is red and made from wood. The handle is about the same size as my 5 1/4" blade K-Bar. I can wrap my whole hand around it unless I start pointing the knife forward. When I do this my pinky starts to slide off a little bit. I have large hands. The handle has an OK amount of traction but there are some mods you can do to increase the grip factor.The hand guard is strong enough and doesn't seem to get in the way as it doesn't sit lower than my index finger.Carrying it around is pretty nice, you don't really notice that it's there. There is hardly any protrusion when hanging it from my belt and down into my pocket. I did have to shave a small portion off the top of the sheath so it would not rub into my side. No big deal.I really dig this knife and since it is so cheap I won't have any qualms on modifications or beating it to s***.
