Hypoaspis Miles are microscopic predatory mites designed to naturally control sciarid fly larvae and thrip pupae by disrupting their life cycle at the soil level. Each pack contains 5000 mites that can survive up to 4 weeks without food, making them ideal for early and preventative pest management. Easy to apply by sprinkling onto growing media, these mites thrive above 15°C and reproduce under suitable conditions, providing ongoing biological pest control without harmful chemicals.

## Description

Product description Hypoaspis miles, also known as Stratiolaelaps scimitus are small predatory mites that inhabit the soil or compost surface around the plant stem. These predators feed on the eggs and larvae of fungus/sciarid flies and thrip pupae. Hypoaspis can last for around 4 weeks without a food source making them ideal for early introduction and prevention of pest break outs, especially at the seedling stage. When pests are present each Hypoaspis can consume around 8 sciarid fly larvae per day. Hyposapis will control parts of the pest life cycle that occur in the compost or soil, however they will only very rarely venture onto the plant itself. This means sticky traps or other predators should be used for a combination that will totally control pests. Dragonfli advise the following rates of application for Hypoaspis miles; Preventative – 100 per square metre Medium infestation – 200 per square metre Heavy infestation – 500 per square metre *We would always advise applying slightly more than needed to ensure total control, hence avoiding repeat applications. Legal Disclaimer Hypoaspis is a living creature and should be released upon delivery for best results. Hypoaspis can be affected by any chemical pesticides used within the previous few weeks. As a guide cease using pyrethrum or SB plant invigorator 2 days prior to use and other persistent chemicals or universal bug killers 1-2 weeks before using Hypoaspis.

The container arrived in a package saying it contains live insects and clear instructions how to apply inside the package. I shook the container and spread the contents on top of the soil in all affected pots. I could not see any mite in the mix, but assumed they are too small to be seen with naked eye. Ten days has passed and the flies are still hatching. I can even see the white larvae moving around in the pot, but still cannot see any mites around. So I guess I will look for another remedy for the pests.

### ⭐⭐ Got it fine, did not work for me.

I had no problem receiving the product in time. The container arrived in a package saying it contains live insects and clear instructions how to apply inside the package. I shook the container and spread the contents on top of the soil in all affected pots. I could not see any mite in the mix, but assumed they are too small to be seen with naked eye. Ten days has passed and the flies are still hatching. I can even see the white larvae moving around in the pot, but still cannot see any mites around. So I guess I will look for another remedy for the pests.

I have been using this product for about 3 years to keep fungus gnats numbers low. In fact it eradicated them a few times and is the only thing that works! I keep various invertebrates and use it in their substrate. It’s harmless to them but keeps the pain in the ass flies at bay. It needs to be used continually over time (but large time lapse in between treatments) as these gnats will easily repopulate but it’s made life much easier. They really do piss me off. I know I said it before but I say it again it’s the ONLY product that works!

These mites are great value for money - a little goes a long way. Add them to the topsoil of new plants or after re-potting to guard against fungus gnats and other soil-dwelling pests . They'll get established and pay dividends well into the future.
