The focus ring is also smooth and nicely damped. Aside from those qualities, this is useless as a general purpose lens. If you only want to shoot wide open or up to about f/4 it's sharp enough. Beyond F/4 it's complete garbage! Beyond f/4 it gets a soft, hazy, bright ring right in the center of the photo.
