I gifted one and kept one for myself and I have this to say about it: Pros: - Razor Sharp - Tight lockup with no play. - Large size but slim profile. - Lightweight but strong. - Good price. Cons: - Liner lock is tab is small and recessed into the frame. This makes it hard and potentially dangerous to close with a single hand. I can't speak for its ability when it comes to rust and corrosion resistance, durability and edge retention at this time. But based on what I can tell, it should be excellent and won't wear out anytime soon. The grip of this knife is fantastic and feels great in the hand. The knife is large but slim and ergonomic, the pictures don't do it justice. I thought it would be a bit smaller in overall dimensions but was surprised at how wrong I was. My previous EDC knife, a mirror polished SOG Fielder, felt just right but now...this is what feels "just right". xD There are holes on both sides of the grip for moving the clip for tip up or tip down carry for those who want to mess with it. I plan to leave it in its default position. I do have one major critique about this knife, but that might just be based on my own preference and opinion: The liner lock tab is WAY TOO recessed and small for a knife of this size and sharpness. I feel uncomfortable when I try to close the knife singlehandedly. The tab is also stiff and feels like I could easily cut myself if I pushed too hard on the spine of the blade and it swings down onto my finger or thumb. The blade glides open and shut very quickly and smoothly. I hope that the tab will soften up with use and as I handle it, I'll master the technique that will make it safe and comfortable for me. But the positioning and size of the tab are still of concern to me. Unless you have giant hands with long fingers, you might find issue with it as well. But if you close the knife with two hands, it's not an issue at all and it's very safe! I opened the knife and pushed down on the blade to see if there was any play in the liner lock. I'm happy to say that neither of my two knives showed any sort of movement when they were locked open. So this tells me it's pretty secure and wouldn't snap shut on me. So aside from this, all I can say is if you're considering getting this knife, go for it! The quality is there and it's very simple but functional design. It is money very well spent. I'm very hard to impress and generally don't write reviews for minor things. But I felt it was worth posting my experience if it helps someone. The handle design is so natural and comfortable when you grip it and the liner lock does it's job. The blade is made of good steel and holds a edge for quite awhile. When it gets a little dull, the AUS 8 steel is quick and easy to sharpen, unlike D2 steel and some of the other overly hard knife blades out there that require a belt sander to put an edge back on them. The blade length and width are perfect for my daily needs and I am confident it would be a decent self defense option. Not real pleased that it is made in Taiwan, but I guess that's what keeps the price point down. That being said, I would pay twice the price for this knife now that I know how well it is built and how it performs. I have bought a few RAT 1 folders for close friends and they love them. They have also since bought this knife for friends and family they know, because they were so pleased with it. I do recommend buying the un-coated blade. The blades that are black, or other colors they offer, are simply painted. It is not a quality powder coat or cerakote finish and the paint scratches off the blade the first time it passes through anything slightly abrasive. Your car keys will take paint off the blade the first day it's in your pocket, but as long as you don't care about that, it does not affect the function of the knife what-so-ever. The best part about this knife is you WILL use it all the time and not be overly concerned about dings, dents and scratches due to replacement cost is quite low. However, I have had my knife for a few years now and it's still going strong with no issues despite heavy use. My expensive folders sit at home and are looked at like fine art and would be afraid to use them the way I use this knife on a daily basis. Also, the Cryo 2 will squeak and rattle around if the grease ever washes out. The spring is loose, especially closed, so you can actually rattle it around if there is no grease in there. I actually had to order white grease after I made the mistake of "cleaning" the knife, and inadvertently washed out all the grease. So keep that in mind also, there is no spring on the Rat 1, also no grease and no chance of any "mechanism" breaking. **Q: dose the knife have a pocket clip** A: Yes, the knife does have a pocket clip; a good sturdy one in my opinion. **Q: Is this made of stainless steel? can it be used as legal pocket carry and as self defense knife?** A: The blade steel is AUS-8, Japanese stainless steel. Whether or not it's legal to carry depends on your locality.
