## Overview

Fritz Mardel Coppersafe 4oz is a concentrated, stable copper treatment designed to treat up to 94 gallons of aquarium water. It targets a broad spectrum of external parasites including Ich and flukes, while live nitrifying bacteria help eliminate harmful ammonia and nitrates. The formula remains active for over a month without staining water, making it a reliable, long-lasting solution. Ideal for freshwater and saltwater tanks (excluding reef and copper-sensitive species), it integrates easily into regular water changes to maintain therapeutic levels and also helps control algae blooms.

## Description

For infections of: Ich, flukes (Gyrodactylus), anchor worms, velvet/protozoan diseases and other external parasites. Ichthyophthirius (Ich) – white spot disease is caused by a parasite that attacks all freshwater and saltwater fish species. The fish appears to be covered by numerous white spots. The parasite is easily transmitted from one fish to another. Ich can only be controlled in the free-swimming stage of the parasite. Five to 30 days may be needed before the infestation is completely eradicated. Copper safe solution remains active for over one month in the aquarium. It is a safe, stable, non-staining concentrate that does not color aquarium water. Be sure to add copper safe solution to replacement water when water changes are made. This will maintain the therapeutic level of copper safe solution. Because copper safe solution is so stable in water, partial water changes are the quickest way to remove it from the water.

Review: Effective. Bad for rivers & ocean. - I have used this product for decades. I used to buy it in bulk. 80% of fish diseases are parasites of some kind. This pretty much kills them all. A little bit goes a long way. Unfortunately, copper's effectiveness at killing invertebrates is not limited to your home aquarium. Wastewater treatment plants do not take out much copper, and everything you put down the drain (water changes) is released by the wastewater plant into rivers, streams, lakes, or the ocean. Copper sulfate disrupts the food chains of aquatic habitats by nuking all of the insects, mollusks, crustaceans, animal-plankton, worms, etc. It starves wild fish, amphibians, small reptiles, and shorebirds. Therefore, it is a last-resort medication. For fungus, use maroxy instead. For Ich, find a malachite green medication, or use "quick cure."* I actually keep this product around for my houseplants: copper sulfate is a known fungicide, and it's slightly antibiotic. I use it for root rot when natural remedies (Ginger, cinnamon, coffee grounds, granulated sulfur) fail. It is a last resort treatment for this too, and I never put it down the drain. *Quick Cure® is lethal to pet shrimp. Move sick fish to a hospital tank before treating for any parasites if you have shrimp in the tank.
Review: Safe and effective remedy when used correctly. - I mainly use copper treatments in moderation when introducing new tank mates and as a prophylaxis. Copper is also effective at controlling algae blooms. However, be sure to research which types of aquatic inhabitants don’t tolerate copper treatments.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is there copper in this or not, what does copper safe mean, I put a stress formula in the aquarium that can not be mixed with copper,**
A: Not sure about mixing it with stress formula. The bottle says it contains 2% chelated copper.

**Q: Is this safe for scaleless fish like loaches?**
A: Scaleless fish don't need special treatment, primarily because they're not actually scaleless. Inverts are highly susceptible to copper, but Aquatic vertebrate have a significantly higher tolerance. Also depends on the type of copper used

**Q: Will this kill leeches in the tank?**
A: I don't believe so....

**Q: can this be used to kill snails?**
A: I guess but it's not good for the fish and water

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ SAVED MY FISH
*by C***F on April 17, 2026*

I had put a snail in my betta fish's tank. He killed it. Then he started "sliming" everything, this black icky slime. When I looked it up they called it rust. My beautiful blue betta was grey, he was sick. 14 days after adding this to a clean tank with new decor, Dude is beautiful. He is blue, he is lively and NO MORE Slime. I highly recommend...a little goes a long way.
