The steel is probably processed using a folded steel technique known as Damascus, but the rough Damascus steel look is laser etched to the blade. If you are purchasing for a heavy Damascus steel look, you will be disappointed. If you are purchasing for a high-quality cutting instrument, you will be very pleased. My wife says this knife has a better feel than her Henckles knives. Its a bit heavier than the comparable Henckles knife. She likes the heavier weight for some cutting tasks.
