(We keep our hot water heater at 120 degree setting.) The cover does not come off very easily and you have to have it on when filling so it can get drips of wet on it. I found about 3 cups of water fill it nicely. I also find that if I screw the cap on with most of the air expelled (by pressing against the side of the sink) I have more of the warmth (or cold) available to its surface for better results.
