The sandpaper won't bit onto the wheel, wheel spins, sandpaper doesn't move. Just started happening recently.** A: Two possibilities come to mind. 1. The lock on the side is no longer closing as tight as it should. I have found that sometimes when I close that lever, it doesn't go as far as it should. I have to push it in a bit further to seat it. 2. Try seating the sandpaper in as far as it will go laterally, lock the lever and try adjusting the tracking wheel back and forth. 3. Check the foot and see if it is smooth-nothing for the belt to catch on. Also check behind the drive wheel for anything clogging the exhaust port and catching the belt. If it's anything else, such as either of the wheels being worn, you will probably have to replace the sander--it ain't worth fixin'. Another thing it could be is that the belt is sized incorrectly. Asbestos was used in flooring and adhesives up until the 1980's You don't want to sand it if there is any chance there is asbestos in it. Another option that sometimes works is to get a bunch of kettles of water boiling, and keep wetting it with boiling water, while simultaneously heating it with a heat gun. Best to have a helper, so its easier to keep all of it both hot and wet. Scrape it with a good flooring scraper. Start in one spot, and work your way out from it. This method doesn't work with every floor, you'll know within 20 minutes or so whether it will work for you. To avoid asbestos dust the pros generally use floor leveler or emossing leveler instead of sanding. **Q: Does it have a variable speed feature?** A: No, there is no variable speed.
