Six discs are included, comprising the four feature Rambo films, a digital copy of Rambo (2008), and a disc full of supplemental material. (A number of the extras have been available on previous DVD editions.) Each film has a commentary: directors George P. Cosmatos and Peter MacDonald on Rambo: First Blood Part II and Rambo III respectively, and Sylvester Stallone on First Blood and Rambo . Although mentioned in the packaging, a previously available commentary by First Blood novelist David Morrell is not included. If you've never heard a Stallone commentary, be advised: the man has uncanny recall of scenes and moments, and is not shy about recounting anecdotes (especially when it comes to establishing how he changed the material to his liking or suffered for a scene). Seriously, he's a very entertaining talker. Surprisingly, the collection of featurettes, especially the historical-context stuff, is remarkably ambitious and even-handed; the interviewees include some very trustworthy and respected authorities talking about Vietnam, Afghanistan, and the mythological resonance of the Rambo character. In short, for a movie series of dubious credibility, this is a top-of-the-line effort. --Robert Horton David Morrell's 1972 novel FIRST BLOOD spawned a franchise when the popular Rambo series was launched in '82. The first film was an adaptation of Morrell's book that stars Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo, a rugged Vietnam Vet and former Green Beret who struggles to adjust to life outside the military. He's soon called back into action in this and the other three films RAMBO II, RAMBO III, and RAMBO-included in this collection. The films ultimately turned into a pet project for Stallone, who wrote, directed, produced, and starred in the fourth film in the series, which was shot some 20 years after the third installment. The presentation of the DVD's is compact and attractive. When playing the DVD's you have several modes to play them in(one is plenty). You get Rambo First Blood. You get Rambo First Blood II. You get Rambo III. You get Rambo (the 4th Rambo movie). Then you get Rambo the digital copy that you can download to your computer and then to I-tunes ect. And you get a DVD with several short films on several different topics (all are interesting). That is 6 quality DVDs for $23.00. That is a deal. If you watched the Rambo movies as a kid, get this package. It is worth every penny. I bought this because my kids love the Rocky movies and I wanted to introduce them to John Rambo.
