It is lighter. If you are using it for a self defense weapon it is a great knife. USA 1280" **Q: Is this a better all around tool than the 1249?** A: That depends on your usage/needs. The 1249 has an 11.5 inch blade, and weighs 1.3 lbs, while the Combat Kubrick has a blade 8.5 inches, and is lighter in weight. If most of your usage would be ACTUAL cutting, clearing brush, and other FAIRLY HEAVY cutting, I would go bigger (the 1249). As most of MY use is OCCASIONAL cutting, but mostly CARRYING, the shorter and lighter Combat model works better for me. I prefer the almost horizontal left-side (cutting edge down) belt carry position, using an aftermarket sheath like the Cleveland Kydex or Valhalla products, which works quite well for my right-hand β€œcross-draw” style of accessing the knife, and it stays out of my way otherwise for normal movement such as bending down kneeling, etc. I think the larger 1249 would be more in your way unless you carried in a more vertical position suspended from a big enough belt. Both of them are really tough, high quality knives (as you would expect from Ka-Bar). Hope this helps.
