Some reviews have not been so complimentary of Ol' Kentucky. It could be that I'm quite a bit older than most reviewers, and have clear memories of my "born in the 19th century" grandfather and his time capsule medicine cabinet. Ol' Kentucky takes me immediately back to the Old South of my youth, at least what was left of it following the War of Northern Aggression. Cherished memories, gentlemanly habits, and Sunday dinners. Memories of home and hearth, of great deeds, great ladies, and of lost causes. Ol' Kentucky is all of these things; I can't explain it any better than that. The aroma is from another time, a better time, and I suppose that's why the reviews have been so varied. To appreciate the scent of this WSP formulation, one needs the memories to go with it...or else a sense of "Hiraeth", that longing for a homeland you never knew. As for me, Ol' Kentucky is a gem of a find, so I recommend it. I recommend it highly. I like the smell, but the soap itself is incredible. My skin never feels dry and it provides a nice rich thick lather. The shave is very smooth. The scent is a little antique is the best way I can describe it. It's complex, and reminds me of my grandpa. I find it hard to describe but it is not fruity or flowery. It's just there. This has become my go-to shave when dressing up or donning a suit. Definitely find the smell a cooler weather scent. It's a "gentleman" in a tub! You need a pair of had stitched classy tan brogues to go with it!The best part with this soap is it is a artisan soap. I contacted the company with a issue I had with a scent I had of theirs in their vegan line. They quickly replaced it and were prompt with their response. I'm more than satisfied with all their soaps, actually considering their vegan and tallow based soaps to be the best I've used thus far, especially for the price per ounce. WSP soaps have a small ingredients list, are easy to load in bad water, and are extremely slick with good cushion. I believe this Formula-T is slightly slicker than their vegan version. All their soaps have the right amount of fragrance too, Mahogany and Tobacco being my favorite. I added their Mahogany Aftershave, balm, and cologne to the shave den as well - so intoxicating!!! I rank this soap above Cella, AOS, Proraso, and even Stirling. Its skin conditioning is just as ample as Valobra.
