Fun craft for a creative gift *by A***H on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 3, 2020* I ordered the "Girl you are a boss" pattern to make for a friend and I really like how it turned out. I personally have a good amount of sewing experience, but I think that someone who is newer could be fine with this one as long as you take your time learning the stitches. The nice thing is that, even though it's so decorative, it's really only 3-4 different stitches throughout the whole thing, so you get a LOT of practice on those!The hoop I got is plastic, not wood, so just be aware that it may not be EXACTLY as pictured. I think the hoop still looks fine though, personally. If I cared enough, I would probably just buy a wood one to replace it with and then keep using the plastic one for my next one.It includes instructions on how to do the different stitches, as well as a diagram for what stitch to use on each part of the pattern. The paper diagram explaining the stitches did come in both English and Chinese. The instructions for how to do each type of stitch are in English and include pictures, but if you really couldn't understand it, they're standard embroidery stitches, so easy to find videos online. I had PLENTY of string (and actually quite a lot leftover -- though I did pull 1 color from another set to mix up the colors of the flowers a bit!). The main thing I would call out about that is that their instructions on splitting the strings are maybe a little harder to understand if you don't already know what they mean -- I know that I didn't understand it at first until later, but maybe it was just me (either way, I've included my own explanation below in case it helps someone else).The blue pattern came out no problem and soaking it didn't ruin it at all!! I soaked it twice to get all the ink out, and I think it looks really nice. Overall, I like it, and have already recommended to others!*Splitting thread*: When you get the package, there will be multiple cuts of embroidery floss of the different colors. When you take 1 of those threads, you will notice that the end of it might fray a little bit -- it's actually because it's made up of SIX smaller very thin threads twisted together. Before starting, refer to the diagram and it will say something like "color 1, 3 strands". What that means is that of the color 1 thread, take the floss and actually SPLIT it all the way down so that you are using 3 of those 6 smaller threads. Usually it's split down to 2-3, and most times I just split it in half (3 strands each) and used one half at a time and put the other one back on the thread holder thing until I needed it.In retrospect, this is totally obvious to me now, but I didn't understand it at all my very first time, and hopefully that extra explanation helps someone else! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ SATAN INVENTED THE LAZY DAISY STITCH *by E***Y on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 5, 2021* LET ME TELL YOU. My therapist recommended I take up embroidery to help with my stress level. Cool. I buy this little kit and it’s all going great. Then I get to the one stitch I’ve saved for last. Lazy daisy. The stitch you use for the approximately 963,007 leaves on this sucker. Did I believe in Satan before? Nope. Do I now? SEEMS PRETTY LIKELY. Instructions are way past my brain level, I try to salvage stuff on YouTube, and whoever named this stitch is delusional or sadistic because IT IS THE HARDEST FREAKING STITCH. And whoever included the 963,007 leaves in this “beginner kit”? RIGHT UP THERE WITH SATAN. Maybe I’m just not cut out for this or maybe I was destined to be on a mood stabilizer and an additional anti-anxiety med anyway. Good friggin luck! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fun and good value but lacks good instructions *by M***N on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 10, 2019* I’m an experienced needleworker so it didn’t bother me and probably won’t bother anyone but the true beginner, but it lacked good instructions. What it had was limited and not suitable for someone who is brand new to embroidery.I would have liked a clearer color chart as some areas are quite detailed and the color differences are slight.Also the phrase in the middle was placed kind of wonky on my kit. I plan on finishing the wreath then washing out the word outlines and redoing them on my own. Not something I would recommend if you’re a beginner.The fabric however was perfect for stitching nice tight weave but not too stiff. and I liked that the floss came pre-sorted, just wish they had labeled the colors.The little snips came wrapped separately and I could see why. It had some odd greasy substance on it. I washed it in hot soapy water 3 times until it went away.
