First, the sections are detachable from the base but the sections have the hook side of velcro, not the soft side. If you're going to hold a bag on your lap or another surface, it shouldn't be scratchy on the bottom. Second, the little fabric bits to hold onto when you zip the sections are on the wrong side. Think about a good purse: when you zip it closed, you often have a tab to hold onto with one hand as you zip with the other. These sections have the tabs on the wrong side for zipping. Maybe they serve another purpose, but it's not clear.
