This has worked perfectly for my typical yard on a quarter acre lot. It took me a while get the hang of winding the line, but it isn’t difficult and the instructions are clear. I was concerned at first how quickly the pre-loaded line broke off, but it was just old and brittle, once I started loading new line it worked great. Makita always pays attention to detail, all adjustments, removals et. are done with a provided Allen wrench, and Makita provides a bag so you can keep it, your line, the manual and a pair of safety glasses secure and ready when you need them. Since I mostly hold it so it whips vertically (to maintain the lawn edge that was initially made by a blade trimmer), I’ve rotated the middle handle opposite of what is shown in the picture. It works so well I only have to make my initial blade cut at the beginning of the mowing season. Thick stalk weeds and bushes will need a different type of machine but this is perfect for maintaining a yard. I like that it just has a basic little shield and the whip cutter... no gimmicky huge metal arms to guide me or covers that block my vision.
