I have a sever, rare form of autoimmune disorder and no longer make viatmin D in my skin. This is farily common for autoimmune disorders. I have been to some of the best medical facilities in the country, including spending a week at the Mayo Clinic trying to figure out what to do. My vitamin D levels were at a 6 when we first started trying to treat the deficciency. After 3 different prescriptions and treatment terms for the vitamin D deficiency, spread over 10 months, my numbers increased only to 19, and would go back down after 1 week without meds. My rheumatologist suggested we stop all of the presciptions and try Replesta, as it is an edible nutritional food, and he has had good results with it. After 7 weeks, my levels are now at 31!!!! This is HUGE. My specialists attribute this to 2 things: 1) Replesta contains vitamin D3, which more closely resembles the vitamin D that is created naturally in your skin. Vitamin D2, while good, is a simulated product that provides vitamin D that is produced elsewhere in the body. So if vitamin D is no longer being made through your skin, the D3 may be more effective, as in my case. 2) The way in which this wafer absorbs is different. If you have problems absorbing vitamins and nutrients, this one doesn't need to go through your intestine or stomach because it's chewed. I don't know if my levels will drop once I decrease the dosage of Replesta. That is yet to be seen. However, using this product has already been a life saver for me, literally. After 2 weeks of tablets, I was able to stay awake in the evenings after work to spend time with my kids. Normally I would have a migraine and be so exhausted that I'd physically be sick. I don't feel 100% better yet, even after vitamin D levels rising so dramatically. However, vitamin D, even with higher levels, takes a while to really work into your marrow. That can take months.
