The first was DOA. The wi-fi didn't work. I spent to much time second guessing myself that I was doing something wrong. I have owned linksys routers for 20 years. I switched to the second router and it works as designed. The signal is strong and covers my 3800 square feet two store house. It is mounted to a wall in the laundry room. When I went to return the first router, the seller wanted me to pay for shipping. I said no, then they issues a prepaid shipping label. That was odd. I will probably order a second router again to use as an access point so I can get more signal in the back yard. I like the builtin parental controls vs. having to go to the cloud like other routers. Guest mode is browser password based and not secure, but I don't care. My guests all have VPNs anyway, or, I can let them use my SSID. The app control is nice. I like IP reservation. I haven't tried hooking up USB storage. I also bought the extended warranty for a few bucks. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Some issues. *by J***E on Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2017* I will start off with the excellent speed in shipping. Phenomenal!The router did not come with the quick setup guide which has the password and instructions for the smart Wi-Fi setup. This smart Wi-Fi is new to me, but i have setup many routers in the past, so it took some time to figure this web based steps out without documentation, but I managed. Early on in the frustration of not having a password and having to setup online first, i did try to call the 24/7 support number, but it rings twice and hangs up. Not good! My speed seems to be nearly half of what my old linksys wrt n router was? I ordered an AC PC card since the PC is still with an "N" PC card, but to lose half speed worries me. Will see if the speed increases when the new card is in. Jury is still out on this EA8500....Okay, new AC network card installed and my speed increased faster then my old "N" card. Still not up to its potential. Now I must look at my modem. Overall works very good even with my NAS ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The unit works really well despite both of those issues so I am looking the other way on this one as it is a refurbish - which m *by D***N on Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2016* I was a bit hesitant to order this as I looked over the comments and noticed that many people had gotten units that they had to return. wasn't sure if it was worth the discount on the product. But I had reviewed the product and found that it was the one that I wanted to buy. I decided to go for it and I received a unit that is now running without problems. But it wasn't all roses though. One of four plastic feet was missing and one of the four antenna outlets (that you screw the antenna onto) was lose and rotating within the hole it was in. I screwed it tight but didn't bother taking it apart to see if something was broken on the inside as well.
