The paper is really good quality, thick and creamy with no show-through from my fountain pen. The binding is exceptional - the pages will not come out unless you rip them. The grid markings are quite visible - not super feint and don't extend to the edge of the page (that may or may not be a problem for you). The elastic closure is secure and you could tuck a pen down the side if you want.I wanted a notebook to copy all my grandmother's recipes and build up my own collection so my criteria were: good paper; good binding; plenty of pages; something that's a pleasure to use for many years. I debated ages whether to buy this or a Moleskine. They are similar price but IMHO this is superior. I would say that the Moleskine is a good quality everyday notebook and really useful and I would choose it for certain tasks. However the Ciak is 'special' and using it feels like more of an event!Against:It's so chunky it doesn't lie completely flat when open (I'm OK with this) but could be irritating. The grid size is odd to my eyes - sub 5mm.
