There's about an inch of free space at one side for ease of getting to the paper. Strong enough to stack a lot on top of each other and they were delivered very quickly. I couldn't remember what I'd got, let alone find anything! Action was needed. I wanted a see-through box so I could easily and quickly view my stamps. I hunted through craft shops and scoured the internet. However, everything I looked at was either too deep, too shallow or too small. Then I found these WestonBoxes for 12x12 scrapbook papers. They are exactly the right depth for my wood mounted stamps. The lid just loosely fits on top, so where I have stamp sets in their original boxes, there is enough leeway for them to still fit. I can clearly see all the stamps without opening the box and there is absolutely no wasted space. I initially just bought one box to try it out and was so delighted that I have now ordered another 8 to hopefully accommodate my entire wood mounted stamp collection. 9 boxes, stacked on top of each other, fit perfectly on my shelf. (Coincidentally, the boxes also seem to fit neatly in IKEA Kallax shelves.)
