Kombucha bottles need to be leakproof and very strong to hold up under the pressurization of the second fermentation, when kombucha develops its fizz and fruit flavor. These bottles meet those qualifications and work perfectly for kombucha.Beautiful: Function is a necessary thing, but beautiful is just appealing. This type of glass is used in laboratories because it resists thermal shock and chemical attack.For example: I used to prepare green tea in a teapot or Pyrex measuring cup, then pour that into a flask to put in the fridge. Now I make my tea right in one of these bottles and when it’s cool it goes in the fridge.The bottles are tall and narrow and several of them on the shelf. Which is good because I use them a lot, and these days my fridge is always filled to capacity. They take up so little space. They are perfect for making salad dressings and vinaigrette. Neither the glass or the silicon cap liner absorb taste or odor, unlike plastic bottles.I don’t like drinking out of plastic. Small amounts of plastic and chemicals leach out of all liquids in plastic bottles. It’s only a trace amount and well below “safe limits”, but why consume any plastic if you don’t have to? These lab grade glass bottles don’t contain any synthetic substances that could leach into their contents, no matter if I’m using them for water, tea, oils, acids, you name it.The bottles would be easier to clean with wider mouths, but it’s not much trouble to use a brush. I also put a bottle in the flatware holder of my dishwasher as a test - I was skeptical that such a tall, narrow bottle would be properly cleaned and/or rinsed, but it came out sparkling.TL;DR - these are excellent bottles that can replace plastic containers, are stronger and more shock-resistant than ordinary glass, and have a tall, narrow profile that takes up little space on a refrigerator shelf. Highly recommended. ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars Absolute JUNK! *by D***D on Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2020* I just got my box of bottles. I was so excited because I've been using empty kombucha bottles for my smoothies. These looked great online. I read the bad reviews, but I figured that I'd give these bottles a try anyway. Big mistake. Firstly, the glass feels like it's very thin...far thinner than my empty kombucha bottles. I feel like I could break the bottle simply by setting it down. (Think "delicate martini glass" thin...not "every-day glass.") But the real problem is the lids. I noticed right away that all of the lids (even the ones on the bottles that I hadn't yet taken out of the box) seemed to be "wonky"...as in, they didn't seem like they were screwed on tightly. Imagine if you have the wrong lid for a bottle...you might be able to turn it if it's the right size, but you might never be able to get it "straight." It might always be a little crooked if the threads aren't the same. That's exactly what you have with these. Every single lid was the same. Not only that, but the lids felt like I could literally crumple them in my hands...super thin and flimsy. It was obvious that the lids...no matter what I did...would absolutely NEVER seal properly. Just on my own little trial over my sink, I couldn't get them sealed. If you throw this in a purse, you will definitely have a purse full of wet stuff. :( It took me all of 30 seconds to decide that I'm definitely not keeping these. I ended up buying a different set of bottles that have plastic lids and are shaped more like a "jar."
