It has what feels like some type of rubber or silicone pads to protect your phone and keep it from slipping. The hinges operate smoothly and are tight. No chance this stand is going to move from whatever position you put it in. Appears to be an anodized finish, but I honestly can't tell. The design allows a bottom charging cable to be plugged into your phone and the base is wide enough an heavy enough that your phone isn't going to tip over.
