In an attempt to give it a second chance as I really wanted this toy to work for my son, I returned it and ordered another one. When the second one arrived, it didn't work either (no sounds at all). I played with the batteries a little (pushed on the area where they were) and it started working. However, after one use with my one-year-old, it stopped working again. When we pressed the on/off button, it would make a noise (low beeping noise) but would not work properly. I tried to work with the batteries again. However, it would not turn back on like it did before. I returned it as well and ordered a different product. I would recommend paying a little more for a different make/model. There are others out there.
