Review: I have been using this product since 1992 - I use Light Mountain Red Henna and have always bought it at local health food stores. I bought it at a competitive price through desertcart Prime this time. Henna does not damage your hair and it doesn't change the underlying color of your hair. If you have dark hair, you'll only see the results under bright light. It leaves all the natural gradations of dark and light hair and covers them with a translucent henna color (orange, in my case). Over the years as my natural hair color has become grayer - the results of the Henna dye have become brighter. When my hair was ash brown it looked auburn after using the henna red, now it is a much brighter orange (because redhead's don't really have red hair) as my roots are largely light in color, rather than darker as they used to be. Although I am over fifty, my hair still has a healthy shine and the color looks natural, as it is not a solid opaque uniform dye color. When my own hair color was darker I used the henna, once every couple of months. Now that my roots are lighter (stick straight hair) I touch up the roots every 2 or 3 weeks. Sometimes I also do my eyebrows. Apparently Light Mountain has another formula for hard to color grey hair. I still use the regular formula as my hair, though it's turning grey, is still soft and smooth. I use Petroleum Jelly on my face, nape and ears to protect the skin near the hairline and keep it from absorbing the dye. The Light Mountain directions recommend you mix the henna at least one hour before applying it; I have mixed it up to 8 hours before using it without any noticeable degradation. The henna is ground into a fine powder and I mix it with plain hot tap water into a loose wet paste. I don't add anything else to the mix. When I apply it I use a rattail comb to part my hair and apply the henna to the roots, section by section. I cover my head with Saran Wrap or sometimes just with a plastic bag and I leave it on from 45 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes. When I rinse the henna out, I do it in the kitchen sink because over time it can stain your shower's caulking orange, and if you are using a lot of henna you don't want to clog the drain. I just use a combination shampoo and conditioner in one and shampoo and rinse it twice. Then I towel dry and let my hair air-dry, the henna can leave a subtle smell of wet cut grass on your hair the first day you dye it, but it's no big deal. Henna is less expensive than chemical dyes. The amount of henna that comes in each Light Mountain box is enough for 2 complete hair dye jobs and about 4 root touch ups, (at least in my case). If you don't know how to mix the henna or part your hair and apply the henna, you can find several tutorials on U Tube, which show all the steps.
Review: Love It, Unbeatable Price, Color, and Long Lasting Wear - I love this. I’ve bought several of these boxes, and I’ve been using it to dye my hair for the past 3ish years. I don’t plan to switch to a different brand or product. For my hair (naturally a medium brown) this is perfect. It stains over my natural highlights so it still has dimension. It almost never fades, even after months, most of the reason I reapply is to add more to my roots. Price wise this can’t be beat. I have very long hair now (reaches my hips-thighs depending on whether it’s been trimmed or not recently), and one box is enough for my whole head now that it’s been dyed enough that I just need to touch up a thin layer over the parts of my hair that were already dyed previously. At first, it took 1.5-2 boxes just to establish the color. I don’t love the application process, but that’s just the nature of henna. It’s messy, smells a bit grassy for at least a week after application, and I hate leaving it on my head for the 3-4 hours recommended for best color take. Still. Gorgeous. Highly recommend as long as you’re certain you don’t want to change colors, as henna is notoriously difficult to change from. (Pictures show my natural hair, and my hair within a couple of days of freshly dyeing with henna)

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I am 51 with light olive skin and dark eyes and dark brown hair. I dont want to go too light. I want a dark rich dark brown with a little red. sugg?**
A: I have dark brown hair (fair skin), and it made mine RED. it mellowed over time, but next time I henna, I'm using a blend of henna, cassia and indigo for a warm medium brown tone.

If you want to go down the henna rabbit hole ;) there's a website: tapdancinglizard.com has several free ebooks with all kinds of information on how henna and other natural plant dyes work, how to blend them, and what to expect long term (like how they respond to attempts to lighten them). Very different from commercial dyes, but I will never go back. My hair and scalp are clearly happier with henna!

**Q: Does it cover the grey?**
A: Greetings; For detail, visit http://www.lotusbrands.com/pdfs/Light_Mountain_Hair_Color.pdfIf you are not totally grey, the grey becomes strawberry & the reds deeper, for a beautiful multi-dimensional red. If you are predominently grey, it will look pink-ish. You've probably seen these older ladies around, bless their punk rock souls. Henna has a harder time attaching to gray hair because of changes in the protein base of gray hair. Light Mountain has developed another two-step product, "Color the Gray!" that effectively colors most gray hair. I have not tried this yet, but its available in eight shades & the box has a color chart to help you determine which shade is appropriate for you. Inside the box are two treatments: Step 1 is applied first to condition the gray hair, thus aiding the acceptance of the final color treatment. Step 2, the final treatment, seals in the color.

**Q: The title of this product says a pack of 3, that implies that there are three 4 oz. packs of henna powder, resulting in a total of 12 oz, correct?**
A: There are three 4oz boxes, resulting in a total of 12 oz. My hair is very thick, just past my shoulders, and I use two boxes (8 oz) for my hair.

**Q: what are the contents of the Red? is there any senna or idigo included with the henna?**
A: It's only a baggie full of regular henna. Hope this helps

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ OMG, LOVED IT! I got gorgeous shiny and soft red hair.
*by M***V on February 11, 2019*

My natural hair color is light brown with a few blonde and red highlights, but I’ve always loved red Irish hair. I would have loved to be born a red hair 🤣 To enhance some of my natural red highlights, I used to use henna when a was a teenager. Since it was natural and didn’t really change my natural color but just enhance it, my parents allowed me to use it. However, I remember the process being very messy, the henna I used being very sandy (texture-wise), and my hair feeling dry after. In my 20s, I just decided I really wanted my hair to be a bit more reddish than the results I got from henna so I changed to ammonia-free hair dyes. The dye gave the more red hair look I was looking for, but left my hair very brittle and frizzy. When I turned 30 I decided to stop dyeing my hair because it just looked too weak and I couldn’t stand the feeling of it. It felt coarse and no matter what I used, it looked frizzy. 4 years later, my hair was finally free of any dye and was looking healthy and shiny, and best of all, was very soft to the touch. But I started to miss my red-hair-self again (lol). I knew I didn’t want to go back to chemical hair dye (my hair is just too fine for it, plus I hate the whole roots growth thing) so I decided to give henna a chance again. I first did a lot of research, and found a YouTube video of a girl with similar natural hair color as mine that used this product and got a gorgeous red tint. I immediately ordered it, but before actually doing it, I did more research to know how to prepare a perfect mix and if it was good for my hair to add lemon to it. Also to know if I actually had to let it cure for four hours before applying it (I never did that before, and that was a totally new thing for me so I needed to know). I also googled about how to avoid henna drying my hair (since it can really be a consequence of using it and it did happen to me before.) I finally Hennaed my hair last night, and I’m sooooo happy with the results I decided to do my first ever amazon review (I’m usually very lazy to do one). This is what I learnt from my research, and what I actually did: 1- Applying henna doesn’t have to be messy, you just need to get the right texture. Last night I didn’t make a mess or had henna drooling down my neck for the 4h I kept it. I prepared my mix and applied it when it had the consistency of Greek yoghurt (not too liquid, not too solid). 2- Trust the manufacturer’s instructions, at least if it’s your first time. I read so many different recipes, and how you should leave the mix cure, and add some kind of oil to make it more nourishing, etc, that I was really confused. Plus, everyone has a different opinion on what works best. My head was about to explode with all the info, and I remembered I hadn’t actually read Light Mountain’s instructions. I did and I felt soooo much better. They were very simple and even gave tips on what to if you wanted to nourish your hair, or get more golden highlights, etc. They actually also say NOT TO CURE the mix, but to apply it once it is cold enough to be applied. 3- Henna quality is essential! Now that I’ve used this henna, I started thinking the one I used to use when I was younger wasn’t as pure or as good quality. I remembered feeling like I had sand on my hair when I was rinsing it out, but this henna is so fine you don’t even feel it! Rinsing it out was very easy, and I was actually very surprised to feel my hair sooooooo soft even while I was rinsing the henna out. It felt like I had put some conditioner on, but I hadn’t. It was just the henna! :D Now, what did I add to my mix? I prepared my henna with chamomile tea and 1 egg. I left it on for 4h and then rinse it out with warm water. Once I had no more residues, I applied a conditioning mask for 1min. I really didn’t need that since my hair was already very soft, but the instructions did say to use some conditioner and I didn’t have any. I just had the mask so I used a bit of that. I then blow dried it so that I wouldn’t go to bed with wet hair and to see the color I had gotten, and OH MY GOD, I’M SO IN LOVE WITH IT!!! The red shade is gorgeous and looks very natural on me. My hair feels very soft and looks lustrous. I haven’t shampooed it yet. It says to better wait at least 24h before doing so, so I’m doing that 🤓 I totally recommend this product to anyone wanting to slightly change your hair color without harming it. Your hair will look amazing, and you’ll feel even more beautiful ❤️
