They asked me to design a test fixture that would give their technicians a simple pass-fail readout. I put together the fixture shown in the photo to test the adapters under both load and no-load conditions and give a red light/green light indication of pass/fail. The client's ac adapters use 5.5x2.5mm plugs, and since the client will be testing many ac adapters over the course of a production run, I needed a socket that would remain reliable over many insertion-withdrawal cycles. I selected this socket, which is very well made, is easy to solder, and has held up well so far. To further reduce wear and tear on this socket I will probably make an additional jumper cable using one of the other two sockets that came in the same package. That way if the socket the ac adapter under test plugs into eventually wears out it's a simple matter of replacing the jumper cable rather than having to take the fixture apart and solder in a new socket.
