Would hte numbers be easy to access?** A: I don't see why not. The locks are very sturdy and lock tight. They are heavy for a small lock. The numbers are very easy to read and twist toward you. It is not a thick lock and might be more east to cut compaired to a Master lock for example. It would serve two purposes for you: a gym lock and a travel lock. **Q: what is dimension of bail when closed? ie space between body of lock and top of bail when closed** A: More then 1/2 inch almost 3/4 on mine. Heavy weight (which will really make no difference to weight allowance) suggests quality and strength, and the added security of 4 digits. I personally chose the red version to stand out from the multitude of black versions on most luggage. Although I have not used the product for an actual holiday I have set the locks according to the easy to follow instructions included, and have tested them a number of times, with no issues. I expect these locks to provide peace of mind knowing that my luggage will be totally secure.
