Review: These are ok, but not great. - For the money, I was expecting them to last longer than just a few days. Put three in an Igloo cooler box and three days later, had to re-freeze them. Slightly better than some others, but for the heavy price tag, a bit disappointing.
Review: Tried this out on the recommendation of a friend.I have not been disappointed. As with all cooler applications, Pre-chilling both the cooler and the contents is paramount for optimal performance. While the Arctic-Ice literature states that you can use it to completely replace the need for standard ice, I have found that for beer cooler/tailgating type use this does not work well. That said, what it does do is virtually eliminate ice melt within the cooler up until the phase change has completely occurred. I put 2-4 2.5lb panels in my K2 20 quart, along with ice and beer, and in my 65 quart Yeti use 2-3 of the 5 lb panels, plus ice and beer. Without having some ice in the cooler, there is too much airspace, which gets filled with warm air each time you open the cooler. This causes the panels to change phase more quickly than desired, and the beer to be slightly warmer than optimal. By using a combination of ice and Chillin Brew panels, you can achieve good ice to beer contact, with a minimum of air space. This will give you very cold beer, and good solid ice for 1 1/2 - 2 days, even with getting in and out of the cooler constantly. This works very well for me, as we typically spend all weekend on the lake, and I virtually never have to add ice to the cooler throughout the weekend. Alternately, if you are looking to pack food for a vacation, camping trip, etc, there is no need for ice, as you won't be getting in and out of the cooler. For this application I really like the panels much better than ice, because you don't end up with a watery mess. One trick I like to do is to put any raw meet in the bottom of the cooler (in plastic bags of course), then put a Arctic Ice panel laying flat on top of it, and put my other fresh items in the top (Fresh items also in plastic bags for safety). If you do happen to end up with a slight leak, the panels are dishwasher safe, making cleanup a breeze. I don't typically try to transport frozen items that absolutely need to stay frozen, nor do I care if my fresh items such as carrots, celery, get a bit frosty. For this reason I find the Chillin' Brew version of the panels to be the only variety of Arctic-Ice that I need. That said, if you want to strictly handle frozen items, or refrigerator temp items, you may want to look at either the Tundra series or Alaskan series.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have a Pelican 45 - how many do I need if I'm going on a 4 day trip to locations with consistent day temps of 104 degrees? Thanks**
A: Really depends on how often you will get into the cooler. Also, will there be ice in the cooler as well or just the blocks? Arctic recommends the same weight in blocks as you would use in ice. I live in Texas and use them in my Pelican 45 all the time. I would suggest at least 4 of the 5lb blocks, more if you fit them in, that's the equivalent of 2 bags of ice. Also, the combo of the blocks and ice works really well if ice is ok with what you're putting in the cooler, both the ice and the blocks seem to last longer with both in there. REALLY IMPORTANT: make sure you pre-chill the cooler. You can do this by putting a block or a bag of ice in the cooler about 30 min to an hour before you put your other items in. Make sure you take that block or the wet ice out and replace with fresh before filling the cooler and everything will last longer.

**Q: I'm a fedex delivery driver. our trucks get hot. will this last in an insulated lunch box?**
A: I used mine in a very insulated cooler and it kept things cold during our 6 hour road trip. I am guessing your truck gets hotter than my car did though. I will also caution you that this ice pack was way bigger than I thought it would be so I’m not even sure it would fit in an insulated lunch box, depending on size. Check the dimensions first. Sorry I can’t give a better answer, I honestly don’t know if it was my very well insulated cooler that helped keep it cold.

**Q: Can I mix them with regular ice?**
A: You can, but I can almost guarantee that it will freeze the ice.

**Q: I want to use these for a live bait cooler. My Cooler is 20qt...the bottom is 14 x 9 in, what size should I buy and will it keep cold for 14 hours?**
A: No, it definitely won't. 3 hrs is a stretch and it's totally thawed in 6 hours. Don't waste your money on this. I ended up buying the much cheaper ice jell packs from Walmart and they remained frozen much longer.

After a work colleague told me he'd bought these ice bricks I was sceptical at first given the $ but I know him as a guy who only recommends quality products to me. He was right ! These chillin brew bricks keep drinks (in my case beer cans) amazingly cold like nothing else I've used before.. It's hard to explain how they're kept so cold without them actually being frozen but they do, they're perfect... 2 medium bricks in my 24 Roadie Yeti esky and its the perfect combo. Trust me, spend the extra $ for these quality bricks and you won't be disappointed I'm glad I did. 🥶
