Review: Perfectly compact, all metal, origami folding camping grill from “Laid Back Camp” anime - I love this thing, it’s so small yet so solid and functional. Let me first say that I really only bought it on a whim, as I love the anime “Laid Back Camp”, which where I first say it used. I wasn’t expecting it to be so cute and yet so functional. For the small space it takes up it is perfect for 1-2 people camping. The pieces are all metal, and the top grill part is particularly heavy and heavy duty to absorb heat. The grill body is made of lighter stainless steel sheets that are folded and slide into interlocking channels to safely and securely finish the fire box bottom. The fire box is small and you can use charcoal, esbit solid fuel, alcohol stoves, or just combustibles (twigs, branches, leaves and pinecones). I also love that it comes with its own little plastic case that perfectly fits all the parts once cooled and folded back into a flat, compact rectangle. The one drawback is that the grill is a fixed height, so there is no adjustment if you have too strong a fire. This is the small size, but apparently there are two other sizes or models. One of them would be perfect for sake lovers, as it comes with a built in sake warmer. Perfect for those cold nights. But this one is enough for me. And if you haven’t already watched the anime, “Laid Back Camp” or Yuru Camp in Japanese, and watch this grill in action.
Review: Compact campfire grill... kacchitta. - Fans of a certain manga/anime will immediately recognize this thing. It's a mini metal offering box. NO! It's a combination grill and campfire rocket stove that can fold down to the size of a small, very heavy, book. It's made from stainless steel, so this weighs just over a pound (500 grams). It's definitely heavier than the titanium backpacking stoves on the market, so that's something to keep in mind if you are a backpacker when every gram counts. If you have a vehicle, this can come along, no problem at all. The package came from Osaka, which is both cool and a little bit of a welcome surprise because of the flood of Chinese sellers on desertcart that made buying quality products a real challenge lately. The text on the package seal read, "開封厳禁" which translated means, "Do not break the seal", which I just found hilarious. It probably says that to keep retail clerks and warehouse workers from accidentally opening the package. You'd think a collapsible piece of camp gear would feel flimsy, but in this case you'd be wrong, this thing feels like a tank for its size. Assembly took a couple of minutes, you unfold the legs and short sides, slide in the long slides, insert the fuel grate pieces, and top it off with the grill grate if you're grilling, or the stabilizer pieces if you're using it as a rocket stove. I haven't used it yet, but from what I've learned from experience, it looks like the grate can take wood pellets if you have a bunch lying around. It recommends against liquid burners, but since it can take a full load of hardwood charcoal, I would imagine it could take an alcohol stove as long as you make sure it doesn't tip over or slide around. I wouldn't grill over an alcohol flame, though. If you burn wood, it will become sooty, so you'll need to find a way to prevent that (a thin coat of vegetable oil, perhaps) or clean it with oven cleaner. At just over a hundred bucks, this thing is a bit pricey, but if you do a lot of camping, this definitely beats lugging a full size grill to the campground. Plus, it should do a fine job as a rocket stove.

I love this thing, it’s so small yet so solid and functional. Let me first say that I really only bought it on a whim, as I love the anime “Laid Back Camp”, which where I first say it used. I wasn’t expecting it to be so cute and yet so functional. For the small space it takes up it is perfect for 1-2 people camping. The pieces are all metal, and the top grill part is particularly heavy and heavy duty to absorb heat. The grill body is made of lighter stainless steel sheets that are folded and slide into interlocking channels to safely and securely finish the fire box bottom. The fire box is small and you can use charcoal, esbit solid fuel, alcohol stoves, or just combustibles (twigs, branches, leaves and pinecones). I also love that it comes with its own little plastic case that perfectly fits all the parts once cooled and folded back into a flat, compact rectangle. The one drawback is that the grill is a fixed height, so there is no adjustment if you have too strong a fire. This is the small size, but apparently there are two other sizes or models.
