April 2016 we welcomed a sweet labradoodle puppy into our home. These bells were a part of his potty training experience from the start and it could not have been easier. We hung these on doors we intended to use. Each and every single time we went outside we would have him sit by the door, we would ring the bells and help him ring them with his paw or by having him nudge them with his nose. He was eagerly praised and we would then step outside. My husband sat with our puppy and spent about 30 minutes training him with treats only once. Within a couple of weeks our puppy was nudging the bells every time he wanted to go out. He is now an expert bell ringer and will do so when he wants to go join the kids at play or if grandpa is sitting on the patio and wants to join him. He has never scratched at our doors and I am glad as we have some nice wooden doors original to the house.Our home is a single story home about 2300 sq. ft. and we can hear the bells everywhere in the house even with doors closed but I can see how in a larger home these bells might be hard to hear. It hangs low enough that my french bull dog puppy and any small dog can reach up and nudge it to ring the bell very easily. The real problem I see with it is the bells are very quiet so if you are on the other end of the house there is no way you will hear it. If your living space is small then it may be suitable but I have an average sized house and when I am down the hallway I do not hear her nudge the bells.
