This is a metal reinforced felt gasket with channels of a semi-flexible sealant built into the gasket that crushes when torquing the gasket to create an unbeatable seal. This is a suitable gasket (that met my expectations) for my recent job of Changing diff fluid on my 2007 Chevy Tahoe. This gasket fit perfectly, and so far no leaks. This in spite of the fact that my replacement diff cover had scrapes and gouges on the mating surface. Truly believe this gasket saved the day, and another gasket would not have been able to do the job effectively. The stock gasket is flimsy paper or felt. That may work for mating two surfaces that have a mirror finish, but I was at a disadvantage as my replacement cover had defects.
