## Overview

This 12" x 12" opaque white HDPE sheet offers a rigid, tough plastic solution with excellent chemical resistance and low moisture absorption. Engineered to meet UL 94HB flame retardant standards and manufactured with a precise 1/32" thickness, it outperforms LDPE in strength and durability. Ideal for professional-grade applications requiring reliable, long-lasting material with a clean finish.

## Description

The opaque white HDPE sheet has a standard tolerance and meets Underwriters Laboratories UL 94HB specifications. HDPE (high density polyethylene) is a rigid, tough plastic that offers good chemical resistance and low moisture absorption. HDPE is stronger and more rigid than LDPE.Plastic refers to a group of synthetic or semi-synthetic materials that have been engineered to achieve specific properties. The most notable characteristics of plastics are its low weight, machinability, corrosion resistance, and typically good thermal and electrical insulating properties. Certain plastic grades also offer optical transparency similar to glass, low-friction or self-lubricating surfaces, and exceptional impact resistance. Depending on their properties, certain plastic grades can be used as alternatives to metal, glass, and ceramic. Unlike metal, plastic may experience creep, which is deformation caused by longtime exposure to a constant load.Tensile strength, used to indicate the material’s overall strength, is the peak stress it can withstand before it breaks. Corrosion resistance describes the material's ability to prevent deterioration caused by atmosphere, moisture, or other medium. Wear resistance indicates the ability to prevent surface damage caused by contact with other surfaces. Toughness describes the material's ability to absorb energy before breaking, while hardness (commonly measured as indentation hardness) describes its resistance to permanent surface deformation. Impact resistance is the measure of a material’s ability to absorb a shock of energy before breaking.

Review: Just what I was looking for! - In total I bought 7 sheets of 2' x 4' polyethylene, 1/8" thick. All of the sheets were nice and square cut ends and dimensionally to size. Only thing is that the shipping cost was a little pricey but I did save the time and expense of driving to a regular plastics dealer and probably would have had difficulty finding this particular size sheet already cut. So overall, the shipping cost was probably a wash. Besides, this was two separate orders so would have been two trips. I am happy that desertcart offered this material as I would not have guessed they did until I went looking for it. Overall a good experience.
Review: five stars is not enough - I use this material for many projects, this sheet in particular was used to replace an old rotten "marine" plywood ski locker hatch of a bayliner capri. the old hatch would crack and bend every time I stepped on it and was scary to walk on. The top and bottom was painted but sides, drill holes, drain and handle holes were all exposed wood. The ski locker often has water in it that isn't picked up from the bilge pump, most of the time it enters through bilge drain fitting and backwashes into the bilge Instead of wasting my time on plywood I used this material that will never rot, crack, break, or need to be refinished. It is slightly heavier than plywood but completely worth the extra cost and effort. To make the hatch I used double sided tape to stick the old hatch to this one, put it up on some blocks and then used a jigsaw to make the rough cut. I then used a large (1 inch cutting blade) router trim bit to make the clean cut followed by a 1/4 round bit to clean up the edge on the top side so that the sharp edge doesn't cut through the carpet. I then used outdoor marine carpet adhesive to glue the new carpet onto the hatch. A plastic spoon worked well for getting gobs of it all over the hatch and then a serrated plastic knife for spreading it evenly Tip #1, wear a mask when cutting the board. the shavings are heavy and don't really go airborne but depending on what you're using to cut it there will be some fumes given off, if you have any kind of breathing problems this might give you a hard time. Or use a fan and ventilate the area well when cutting Tip #2, when using router bits make sure to put some high strength thread lock on the bearing screws, it is very easy to lose a bearing when working with HDPE since it does resist and vibrate a lot more than wood when being cut Tip #3, after the trim cut before rounding, take very rough sandpaper and go over the edge all around, this will result in a very clean round cut Tip #4, practice on trimmed off pieces from jigsaw cut to make sure you have the correct depth, are using the right amount of pressure, and have the right speed. High speed tends to cause a lot of vibration which can cause you to lose a bearing, low speed will take too long and the cut won't be as clean Tip #5, setup a box out of cardboard around the material while it's being cut, cutting it makes a huge mess even with a vacuum line on your router. This way the cardboard will contain the mess in a small area for easy cleanup I almost want to make a silly statement like "why don't manufacturers use this in the first place?", but I think everyone who has worked on anything manufactured in the last few decades knows the answer to that This new hatch will easily outlast the boat and it's owner. I also ended up rebuilding the deck with a few layers of fiberglass mat followed by many very thick coats of epoxy. The deck is now far better than anything you can buy manufactured

## Questions & Answers

**Q: need 1/8 inch thickness, 3 inch width X 48 inches of this product. is it available?**
A: Yes. Look for conveyor slide material.

**Q: How much does a 1/8" x 24" x 48" piece weigh in pounds?**
A: The density is equal to 59.93 pound per cubic foot [lb/ft³], or 0.55 ounce per cubic inch [oz/inch³] .
I never weighed one, however based on the above, my best estimation would be about 4.99 pounds.

**Q: Will contact paper stick to this? I need a piece of plastic to put contact paper on so I can use it to take flat lay photos of clothing and shoes.**
A: Board has a texture to it, so most likely will not adhere. Choose a smooth surface HDPE product.

**Q: Will this work well for a fluorescent light cover?**
A: I think it would block much of the available light

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ sturdy and odor-free
*by P***A on October 24, 2021*

Odor free, and feels like HDPE food cutting mas I have had. Need it for the inside of a wooden shallow well cover where I did not want condensation dripping off wood or paint, or aluminum. This ended up being thicker than I anticipated, but that isn't the materials's fault, it's mine. I thought at 1/16 thichness I was getting something that would roll up and be able to be cut with scissors, like the food cutting mats I use (chop veggies then fold up mat to help pour contents into pot or bowl.). I think rolling hdpe might be 1/32" thickness, because while 1/16 was a little bit flexible, I had to use a saw to cut (not scissors, and it just bent in tin snips). It was pliable enough to attach with 3/8" stainless steel staples, though (certainly not rigid and cracking like an acrylic), so it worked well for my application.
