The handles are made of sturdy thick plastic with a layer of rubber so that you can grip it well.I have type 2b/2c hair and have been trying this brush in comparison with my tangle teezer. I prefer that to detangle as this brush caught more on my wavy hair, but I found that the length and bristles on this brush really distributed product well and solved a frizzy problem area on the back of my head after one use! I will keep using this brush for that purpose.
