The second (and subsequent) push/press does the actual measurement. **Q: Why does this thermometer read 159.6 as my temperature and the screen is blue - not red yellow or green. I changed the batteries and still gives this** A: If it keeps reading that temperature then just send it back to amazon. **Q: How do you get the covere off so that I can use the ear probe.** A: I didn’t go that far I had to return it because it didn’t change the colors and didn’t read the temperature right to begin with.
