Review: Get the speed X needed & corded SDS Max hammer drill - Works great on shale rock to about 17 inches or so. If your using it for shale rock and you want close to 21 -28 inches for T posts, best to get their Speed X 36in long 1-1/4 bit 5 min or less in ea hole on my broken shale ground. Pulverized the rock and the flutes bring the powder up to the surface and keeps the bit digging and no wear on bit seen, stays sharp after over dozen 21in -24 “deep holes in shale. Didn’t need to start with smaller dia. bit, the 1-1/4 cuts shale excellant. Don’t use cupped concrete bits they get plugged not practical in deep shale ground. Just use a powerful SDs max bit and heavy SDS Max hammer drill from desertcart, mine was corded for power and longevity. Doesn’t need to be expensive just powerful. T posts then hammered in quickly with manual tube hammer, no need for powered T post hammer. These bits are the way to go for Standard T posts in shale!

Purchased to drill holes in blue limestone for rock breaking grout. The drill worked well, but using a large battery-powered hammer drill was taking "forever" for each hole, and I had many, many, holes to drill. I ended up switching to a 60# pneumatic drill to get it done... and even that took quite a while to complete.
