First it is hilariously accurate ! 2nd it’s very well written ! 3rd Literally anyone who is even going to visit Detroit should read this !!! As a local I’ve lived in suburbs and worked in Detroit . Both kids started at a College for Creative Studies Fall if 2021 and I bought them copies - I didn’t know how great the book was - I just thought title sounded about right for Detroit ! I found myself tabbing pages for then and underlining stuff that was right on the mark ! Still need to buy another copy for myself ai love it so much ! I’ll probably buy more as gifts as well. Now the books I got them are in their dorm rooms - so ai thinks it’s helping a kid from Florida and another from Taiwan acclimate to Detroit while not acting like a..h….! LOL Seriously - even if not going to Detroit read this book - it’s really relevant in so many ways - and probably relevant to other cities as well! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fun to read book *by R***S on Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2016* Fun to read book, and a great introduction to a city I've lived near but never really went to - until last year. I'm a Detroit resident now, outside the hype of downtown in a great neighborhood on the NW side of the city. The book is a fun read. Could have used it when I first moved in. Mostly I'd say his guidelines fall under the category of simple respect. Mostly though, I see a (hopefully) good author coming up and look forward to more books from him.He does go a bit far in my opinion (I guess this is me being a jackass) from time to time, e.g. when he rips on Shinola for building the brand on the back of the city. I do think we should be encouraging more Shinola's in the city, and maybe we could understand the mutual benefit of a company like Shinola leveraging the Detroit moniker. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolute must-read for newcomers *by S***L on Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2016* I somewhat accidentally moved to a pre-cool part of Detroit around 6 Mile and Livernois this summer from a metro-Detroit suburbMan, do I wish I had read this book first. I figured this would be all comedy, but there's a lot of solid information in here for newcomers.I grew up in the metro area about 30 minutes north of the city and found this book very helpful, even after living here for 6 months, so if you're planning on moving here from New York or something, you need this.When I first moved to Detroit, absolutely everyone that's never lived here had endless amounts of advice that was, in retrospect, completely insane, and often with racist undertones.So far, not a single tidbit of wisdom from someone that's never lived here has played out, except the high car insurance.So spare yourself the trouble.
