The positioning of this is on a window near the door so perhaps the cold drafts are not helping. They arrived as two pairs inside a plastic casing which is good for storing (and smaller AA batteries fit the cases too). They are supposedly ready for use but the multimeter said otherwise, so a charge was needed before placing in the door chime. So far they are working well but as always with these - time will tell. Should they fail spectacularly within a couple of years I will update this review, but so far so good. Again the longevity will dictate the value for money (around £3 each at time of writing this review - twice the price of normal C batteries).
