I assume its to be licked rather than chewed at least that is my interpretation of how my dog uses it **Q: is this suitable for a 7 month old golden retriever?** A: I had a Guide Dog Puppy. What I did because their tummies are so delicate I took the inside out and put his food in and froze it . He had dry food which I soaked and mushed up in some hot water. Great for their teeth.
