Getting the old wheels out was simple, I put the chair on its side (on the sofa) and they came out with a wiggle. Putting the new ones in was easy, again, needed another wiggle to make sure they are fully inserted and held in place. Thats is.. net result are wheels that actually feel smoother and easier to move around. So far, no marks on the carpet (and I've had a close look). Upstairs, in my office, I'm sitting on quite an expensive chair, and I paid a lot (£75) to upgrade to 'wooden floor friendly' wheels.
