The heat gets through if you are holding the item for more than just enough time to move it from one place to another. I grabbed a small pan from the toaster oven and was trying to decide where to set it. The heat started to come through the glove by the time I made up my mind. You won't get burned because you will feel the heat coming through and certainly put down whatever you picked up, but it is good to realize this is not as good an insulator as a regular oven glove. It is however, MUCH better for picking up stuff that you need fingers, or a better grip.
