They make everyone's favorite candies: Mike and Ike, Hot Tamales, Zours, Teenee Beanee Gourmet Jelly Beans, and seasonal Marshmallow Peeps. Founder Sam BornThe Just Born candy tradition was conceived in 1910, when Sam Born immigrated to the United States from Russia. A candy maker by trade, Born was also ingenious in the use of technology. Inventing chocolate sprinkles, known as jimmies, and the hard chocolate coating on ice cream bars. In 1916, Born was given the keys to the city of San Francisco for inventing a machine that mechanically inserted sticks into lollipops. Born opened a small candy-making and retail store in Brooklyn, NY, in 1923. Ever the entrepreneur, he proudly displayed in his store window an evolving line of daily-made candy, marketing its freshness in a sign that declared "just born." The original company logo showed a baby resting in a candy measuring scale.
