I am using one rod to hold one very heavy, blackout curtain, and I find the rod to be very sturdy although the rod is thin. The finial spheres screw in easily with no defects. I wish I had found these sooner. I have similar looking rods that are thicker and much more expensive, but these thinner rods look just a nice and seem to be just as sturdy. They also seem to be scratch resistant, which is a huge plus.
