Review: A good alternative to the Weber smoker box - with a couple of caveats! - This smoker box is a a perfect and more economical version to the Weber box, which retails for around 3 times the price. From what I can tell, there are two obvious differences to this and the Weber that could influence your decision. 1. This box does not have vents or holes in it's base. It is a solid sheet of steel. 2. The box does not have a lip to make it easy to top up if needed whilst on the grill/BBQ. Both of these issues did not impact me whilst using on my gas fuelled Weber Q2200. Contrary to ALOT of advice on the internet (but not ALL advice) I did not soak my chips before putting in the box. Some have said that soaking will induce steam - which make sense. I also think for a gas grill where there is no live hot coals and this sits on the hot metal plate, this causes the heat to transfer by conduction to the chips which then smoke. The smoke lasted for around 30-40 minutes, which was enough to give a really good flavour to our burgers, sausages and koftas. Obviously, if you are cooking for longer/more people you may need to top up the chips which could be hard given there being no lip. Overall, I would recommend this box for the Weber Q2200 and potentially other gas BBQs
