Filter is designed the way, that it is not getting clotted easily. So far, I did not have to clean filter at all, even so it is opened in maximum position/ in order to get sufficient flow/; with previous pump I had to deal with clotted filter at least every 10 d. And you cannot really hear any noice when pump works. Also, for unclear reason water seems do not evaporate as much and no need to add water to fountain as frequently.
