Itʻs about 2 yrs old. Will it still fit?** A: I thought the same thing when I first got the replacements, but once I took one of the filter containers apart I realized they are the same as the ones inside the unit. **Q: Is it a hard water softener filter?** A: NO! You need a whole house softener. I have a Whirlpool softener and the filter behind that for potable water. You don't have to spend several thousands either for a whole house system. The big companies will try to sell you a $4-5K system that doesn't do any more than my Whirlpool. Their sales reps earn a very high commission. I've had the large tank ones in the past also, so I know what I'm talking about. About 4 years I got this Whirlpool for around $350.00 at Lowes. There are other similar brands.
