- [Easy To Use] This electromagnetic encoder is suitable for shaft applications, where a simple two-pole magnet makes the sensor IC rotate up or down, and a simple SPI command can be used to program the 0 position into the device.
- [Absolute Angle Measurement] This AS5048 electromagnetic encoder provides PWM output and SPI or I2C interface to provide absolute angle measurement for the microcontroller. In the mechanical design, there is no need to consider the exact matching of the initial 0 position of the chip and the magnetic pole.
- [14-bit Sensor] AS5048A electromagnetic encoder is a 14-bit rotary position sensor (previously called encoder), used for 360-degree absolute angle measurement and PWM (= pulse width modulation) based on non-contact magnetic sensor technology for full rotation output ).

How does this make it through quality control ? Utterly useless to me like this, just get the magnetic encoder IC from somewhere like Farnell and use a separate breakout board.
