Brilliant kit! The pieces fit together beautifully and hold together perfectly. No paint either. The kit comes with both stickers and water-based decals. I used the stickers and you cannot tell they are stickers. I am totally satisfied with every aspect of this kit! All I used was an exacto knife and some tweezers for the smaller pieces. **Q: How do these compare to Gundam in terms of difficulty? What grade would you compare it to?** A: I've built the R2-D2 half of this kit so far. For difficulty, I'd say it's just a little more than a HG. In overall detail, this kit is somewhere between HG and MG. MG in terms of part count, HG in that the little details may need painting. (R2's arms will need some paint to look like the box art, BB-8's orange plastic is a little yellow, but I only noticed this because I have the sphero; these parts can be removed fairly easily for painting\airbrushing later). Overall the natural plastic looks great, even without paint. I used gundam markers item: B00HY93GHY GM01 black and GM03 brown for R2's panels and it really makes it stand out. Look up panel lining. I'd recommend this kit as is out of the box. Using the tip of a straight pin or hobby knife helped me to pick up the smallest stickers, then I used a pointed cotton bud to slide them in place. **Q: are these models that need to be built or action figures** A: Definitely NOT action figures. It is a model kit.
