Whether playing CDs or the radio, the sound is impeccable with the factory setting, whether I'm playing operas or classic rock or listening to my favorite classical radio station. The volume knob has a good range (0-32) which is convenient because sometimes CDs aren't recorded at the best level, so you can control it accordingly for optimal sound. The same is true with radio stations, especially those with weaker signals, but that's what the attached antenna is for, though I haven't needed to use it because major stations come in loud and clear. As a bonus, there is a preset function for your favorite radio stations (scan or set them manually); as for me, I only use a few stations, so I like the knob on top for manual tuning. Sound is #1, as I began this review, and again, I find the factory setting to be perfectly balanced so you get good sound and that includes bass, treble, or anything in between.
