They have hard plastic on the outside. I bought them for gifts in the loot bag at my 9 year old sons outdoor movie night party. The kids ended up using them to play flashlite tag. They stood up very well. They were dropped many times and I did not have to replace a single one. ### ⭐⭐ Some didn’t work *by V***L on Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2020* I can’t speak to durability as I got these for goody bags that have yet to be distributed but I was disappointed to find that three out of the 18 did not work at all.
