Both telescopes have pros and cons. 114 eq=more aperture,lesser price,better mount for photography,will resolve more in sky but heavy,complicated for a beignner , difficult to carry to darker sites for astronomy.Orion starmax 90=portable,great ease of use , high quality plossl eyepieces and more powerful and good on planets. Downside -does not has a full fledged tripod , lesser aperture , so lesser performance on deep sky stuff in comparsion to 114 eq and expensive too.Both telescopes will show moon,saturn,jupiter,venus and mars -when closer to earth. If you want to travel and carry your scope and want ease of set up , then orion starmax 90 is for you. If you want to enjoy deep sky and want to do astrophotography and have a slr camera and do not mind a heavy telescope , which is slightly difficult to set up then 114 eq is for you.
