## Overview

Passiflora Caerulea, the Blue Passion Flower, is a vigorous deciduous or semi-evergreen climber growing up to 10 meters tall and wide. It features striking 8cm white flowers with blue and purple filaments and produces edible 4cm orange passion fruits. Ideal for full sun to partial shade and well-drained sandy or alkaline soils, this advanced-level plant requires regular pruning and bi-weekly fertilizing to maintain health and maximize flowering and fruiting.

## Description

P. caerulea is a vigorous large deciduous or semi-evergreen climber with twining tendrils. Leaves dark green, with 5-7 finger-like lobes. Flowers to 8cm in width, white, with blue and purple coronal filaments. Fruits ovoid, 4cm, orange Growing Details: Common Name: Passion Fruit Genus: Passiflora Species: Caerulea Skill Level: Advanced Exposure: Full sun, Partial shade Hardiness: H4 Soil type: Well-drained/light, Chalky/alkaline, Sandy Height: 10m Spread: 10m Description: Pruning is a must to keep the vine healthy. Prune off less vigorous growth and occasionally prune back vigorous growth to promote flowering. When established, and without care, the passion fruit can easily overtake other garden plants, shading them from sun. Fertilize at least once every two weeks in the growing season. If their pot is too large or if they have an unrestricted root run then the whole plant will simply get bigger and bigger but it will refuse to flower and therefore produce the fruits. By limiting the pot size you are limiting the ability to grow and this is seen as a threat, so the natural mechanism is to produce seed for the next generation. A suitably sized pot for an adult plant would generally be of 12 inches in diameter.

Review: Very pleased, lovely flowers - Waited to write a review for this plant as I ordered it last year I think Autumn time knowing it wouldn’t do much until summer. It arrived well packaged and in good health. It has since survived a tough winter being totally flooded and then snow!! I was advised to re pot the plant into a larger container I think around May. When I repotted it I discovered the pot had been totally overtaken by ants - they had made a series of tunnels all through the pot and there was hardly any soil left at all! STILL the plant survived. When it got warmer it suddenly started to grow after doing nothing for months and now it has loads of buds ready to flower and I had my first flower come out the other day when we had a bit of sunshine. Very very pleased with this plant it seems a miracle that it has done so well!!
Review: Absolutely tiny for the price. - For the price the size is ridiculous. It was £18 at the time of this purchase. With no exaggeration at all, the ones that are sold in supermarkets sometimes for £1.50 are 3-4 times the size in terms of foliage. Far far smaller than the garden centre ones for around £12. I just wanted a decent sized one to get established faster and for being in a 2l pot I was expecting much better. For context I bought a second one from somewhere else for £13.50 for comparison. What's there isn't even in great condition, its a bit wilted and most of the tendrils are dried out to a crisp. Fingers crossed it will settle down. I buy plants online fairly regularly but I don't think I'd trust this company again. I was in the end going to return, but the postage would have cost too much as they did not accept the description was in accurate as the pot size stated is correct and its 'the root size that's the important bit'. So, just in case there's also a photo of them too (I have quite small hands, but less than the size of an apple for the root mass)
