The Betts 1102-0178-P Old Salt Premium Cast Net is ideal for Bait fishing and comes with a utility box for storing lures, hooks, tools and other supplies. Cast easily with this net and catch plenty of bait with its full spread. The net measures 4-feet by 3/8-inch and weighs 1-pound per foot. How-to instructions on catching bait is included.

Review: GREAT NET BUT MAKE SURE YOU GET ONE WITH THE TRADITIONAL LEAD LEADLINE. - 98% of cast nets these days are complete garbage as the weights around the leadline quickly become loose because the terrible craftsmanship . Good nets will keep those weights tight and prevent them from becoming loose . The Old Salts are one of the nets that keep the leads tight (So far) I haven't had a problem with them . I have had major issues with the Tyzac's and High Tider series nets which are cheaper. The OVERWHELMING majority of people purchase cast nets that are much too large , the ONLY time you should buy a net over 4 to 5 feet is if you're on a boat and have deep open water . I have 10 and 12 foot nets but I rarely if ever use them because I find 3 to 4 foot nets superior in almost every way . You can throw them much much further from the shoreline and they're much easier to handle and carry . I catch everything from corncob size mullet to large adult bunker down to killifish and shrimp. Small nets do it all don't let people talk you into buying overly large nets , always go small UNLESS as I said you're on a boat in deep open water. EDIT: Bought two more nets and these are damaged around the leadline . The leadline is loaded with tufts and then tied which crimps the leadline all along the outer edge making it ineffective at closing correctly resulting in lost bait . You will still catch bait but not near as many as you would otherwise if the leadline was tied correctly .

**Q: Will this work on women?
Has anyone tried?**
A: Someone tried to catch me with this net. But then, he said I was too large and might be tough, and threw me back. I was so insulted, that I destroyed the deck off the Salem Willows. Watch what you say to women that you catch in this net ;)

**Q: Is this good for catching tropical fish (tangs, puffers, etc)? we are looking to take a net to the fl keys to expand our saltwater tank.**
A: You can use it to catch tropical fish while scuba diving, but you have to modify the net.  Cut all the brails free and remove the brails and hand line.  Tie a foam net float at the top of the net so the center of the net floats.  To use it, observe the fish you want to catch, carefully drape the net over the coral so as to create a barrier to the targets escape route, gently herd your quarry into the net and with a small hand net scoop it out and put it in a container and slowly return it (decompress the fish) to the surface.  This is how I used to catch tropical fish in the Keys in the late 70's/early 80's.

**Q: Will this work for catching schools of bunker?**
A: Yes

**Q: Is the net nylon?**
A: The Betts model 25-4 I purchased is a MONO cast net, not a nylon net. Purchased specifically to catch mud minnows and small pinfish in small pockets at shoreline without having their dorsal fins catch in the netting when removing them. It also is easier to shake debris and water from the mono. Nylon thread nets have to be cleaned of weeds often. Check out the BETTSTACKLE.COM website.
